Inclusive learning: how does TestWe incorporate the principles of this teaching approach?

Inclusive learning: how does TestWe incorporate the principles of this teaching approach?

Inclusive learning is at the heart of training and educational concerns. It means taking account of diversity, learning difficulties or disabilities, and guaranteeing equal opportunities for all. This approach is not limited to teaching: it also concerns assessments. On the TestWe online exam platform, there are a number of features to meet specific educational needs. Find out more.

What is inclusive learning and why is it important?

Pedagogy: the main principles of inclusive learning

You may already have heard of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). This educational approach, developed in the United States and Canada, is making headway in Europe. The aim is to offer the same learning conditions, regardless of ability, disability or background.

Inclusive learning is based on several principles:

  • Developing knowledge using accessible media, resources and methods;
  • Offering learners several ways of demonstrating their knowledge, for example by optimising access to digital tools and technologies adapted to their needs;
  • Multiplying strategies, by letting learners choose the learning methods that suit them best (group or independent work, distance learning, etc.).

In this way, flexibility, adaptability and accessibility are at the heart of inclusive learning.

Integrating an inclusive approach into training: a priority for 2025!

Implementing the means to guarantee equal opportunities is essential in 2025. Firstly, for ethical reasons: the aim is to combat exclusion and discrimination and to adapt practices to changing mentalities.

This inclusive approach is governed by a number of obligations.

  • The Equal Rights and Opportunities Act of 11 February 2005 guarantees every child with a disability the right to be educated in a mainstream school. It also introduces various measures to promote professional integration.
  • Training organisations are also affected. They must adapt their training courses and assessments to ‘take account of the particular constraints of people with disabilities or disabling health conditions’ (Decree of 9 January 2006).
  • And since 2018, the Qualiopi certification requirement has included criteria that take into account the specific needs of people with disabilities.

TestWe: an inclusive assessment tool for universal education

The TestWe online exam platform offers an inclusive approach that is flexible, adaptable and accessible. And not just because the tests can be taken remotely: TestWe offers a range of facilities for people with disabilities or special educational needs.

Responding to the specific needs of learners

People with disabilities can have their assessments adapted (article L112-4 of the Education Code). These arrangements take several forms, as detailed on the official MonParcoursHandicap website:

  • Accessible premises or the possibility of carrying out the assessment in a special room.
  • Organising distance tests where there are mobility constraints.
  • Adaptation of subjects, for example with larger print.
  • Extra time or breaks for the test.
  • Human or technical assistance to read instructions orally, dictate answers or use special software (voice synthesis, for example).

Disability: TestWe integrates several technologies to facilitate inclusion

TestWe’s first priority is accessibility. The platform enables higher education institutions, certifiers and training organisations to organise their assessments remotely, with or without a connection.

A number of features offer greater adaptability and flexibility:

  • An extended duration option, for students and learners who need extra time to complete their exam.
  • A customisable interface, with flexible settings to improve legibility and offer greater visual comfort by changing font sizes or contrasts.
  • Speech recognition and synthesis, so that learners with reading or writing difficulties can answer their exam questions in better conditions.
  • Compatibility with assistive software, such as screen readers.
